I will be the first to answer you. From my own perspective i never set out
to breed around a hen, it came about for the following reasons. This hen was
bred from my original pure stock, and all of its parentage were all proven
flyers, but more importantly to me from proven breeders.
Silvio - I have written about this a few times on the forum about breeding
around a hen.The picure enclosed is off a hen i bred a family of birds
around, i have shown many pics of her prodigy on the forum in the past...I
agree with you, and (in my opinion) more so in Tipplers the success of
breeding around the correct hen cannot be underestimated...It just takes
longer to achieve ones goals
Dear Dave : I am glad to hear that you read the article on MtDNA.I did in
fact build my line of racing pigeons based on one pair. I focused on
perpetuating a hen line. Kemo has done the same thing and a few days ago I
took the time to speak to Mr. Tommy Dilks and he also followed this same
path.
I put the birds together usually in February, and even then we have some
snow and freezing conditions. However, the weather is usually on the turn
along with the daylight hours, so by the time the birds are paired settled
and laying, we are heading into warmer and lighter conditions, compared from
now through to February.
Neen Id like to ask for your thaughts on which is the more challenging. the
breeding of Fancy pigeons or performance pigeons? Personally the breeding
for performance is the most challenging in my opinion! Most fancy pigeon
breeders if not all breed based on phenotype wheter by Inbreeding. Line
breeding or outcrossing.
Neen....selection is definitely a tool used to establish a standard or an
ideal within a loft deemed as perfection by the individual fancier. This
standard or ideal is in the eye of the individual beholder. Selection can be
based on many criteria such as color, size, pattern expression,
conformation, temperament.
Well Raul not everyone is of the same opinion...received a letter from a
fancier who wishes that his name remain private and basically states there
is no standard and never will be. He also gives the examples of various
strains and says look how different they are.
Hi Neen Luka as always an interesting topic Neen is perfectly right in/line
breeding in the right hands is a tool to increase the genetic purity of any
living thing and give a better chance of fixing traits the secret of using
it correctly is to know which traits to look for and how to fix them with
tipplers the traits should be flying ability first and to do this the birds
must be tested in
Harpreet my friend, I hope you don't mind me giving my take on what I
believe Neen is saying. Ill use myself as an example as a breeder and flier
of E tipplers. As you and most here on Ft know all of my birds in my loft
flown and unflown are direct descendants from the original 3 pair of birds I
acquired from Neen.
