Harpreet my friend, I hope you don't mind me giving my take on what I
believe Neen is saying. Ill use myself as an example as a breeder and flier
of E tipplers. As you and most here on Ft know all of my birds in my loft
flown and unflown are direct descendants from the original 3 pair of birds I
acquired from Neen. It would be very safe for me to say that the original 3
pairs acquired from Neen are either proven fliers in the air, or are
offspring from breeders that were 1st tested and proven in the air before
being stocked as breeding birds! I know for a fact one of the birds in the
original 3pair from Neen was a record holding Yb hen. Okay now here comes
the fun part, its now up to me to decide how to pair these birds up for
breeding purposes. Well most if not all of the guess work in my decisions
have been made quite easy for me in my 1st attempt at breeding ybs that
will have the potential to be good fliers because, as I mentioned above the
original birds that I am breeding from are either proven fliers or direct
descendants from proven fliers!. Its up to me now the breeder to test at
least one of the offspring from each breeding pair I have bred in the air
so as to confirm that I am on the right track in maintaining the ability of
sustained flight! If I were to consistently only pick birds off the perch
based on its Phenotype/traits for breeding purposes and not periodically
test the offspring from these birds how will I be certain that I am
improving or regressing the ability for endurance flight? Even the best of
families/strains bred without testing their progeny to ensure the flying
ability is being inherited from generation to generation will end up as show
Tipplers, good to look at but couldn't fly to save its life:-) One only has
to look at the Show Type Homer to confirm this is so! Same breed, one bred
for its homing abilty the other bred for looks in the show pen. I have only
been flying tipplers for 2 years and in now way claim to be an expert on
breeding and flying them far fron it, But would you not agree the basics of
breeding any animals is the same ,proper selection, training testing etc?

Take care,
Raul
