Fat content of seeds
The fat content in my feed is consistently between 2% - 5%. This of course
is not for birds in competition but for the molting, breeding and rest
periods only. Closer to 5% in the breeding period, 3% or so in molting and
2% in rest period.

Anything more than 5% for me is too much and only for a short period of
time.
For example during feed up, % of fat may be more, but then only for a few
days and usually at start. Again, great caution with fat/oil seeds must be
exercised. More fat does not necessarily mean more fly.

Here is how you can work out your fat content if you know the percentages of
each seed/grain in your regular mix.

For example, you are feeding 4 grains and a quantity of 25% each.

Corn 25% quantity X 3.9% fat = .975
Wheat 25% X 1.9% fat = .475
Peas 25% X 1.0% fat = .250
Milo 25% X 2.9% fat = .725
--------
2.425 %

So, you have around 2.5% fat in your feed mix.
