Using Epsom Salts

Hi Danny / Raul,
I remember the old timers giving it to birds, as a purge, but what in my
opinion made no sense, was the fact, that they would feed the birds all the
small seeds they could think of,and then give them Epsom salts diluted in
warm water.

I personally don't use Epsom salts, except in the bath water. However, if
there is shortage of magnesium in the birds system, then a bit in the
drinking water will be beneficial.

All the best
Oskar

Hi Raul,

I will have a crack at your question mate, As far as I know the salts is
given to the birds to clean them out of all undigested seeds and fluids etc.
This is normally done before the start of the feed up, thus allowing the
birds to take in the nutrition supplied to them by the grains supplies in
the feed up as well as the tonics or the boiled water that is supplied to
them as well, which in turn energizes them for the long fly ahead. This is
my understanding of the reason why Epsom Salts is given to the birds.

Cheers, Danny.

Subject: [FT] Epsom salts?

Hi All, long time no see LOL! I have a question for the forum. What is the
purpose of using Epsom salts on birds before a fly? I personally believe it
has no nutritional or mineral value, but from what I have read in older
tippler books the most tippler flyers of the older day used it frequently.
Can anyone share any info on this?

Take care,
Raul.
