Tippler Subject Category:

Guys,

Speaking of certain colors in Tips, all I can say is that when I was a kid
with my father, some 50 years ago all I remember seeing at first were prints
mottles grizzles, some reds duns that kind of thing.
About 5-6 years later a friend of mine, named Roy Dudgeon a Tippler guy
also got a bunch of solid blacks and a few BB from some where, and I cant
ell you who from.

Our birds back when I was a kid and before where imported from England, and
it would follow that at that time these were the dominant colors/patterns of
that era and it would also support Michaels thoughts on the subject.

If one looks back to the early 1900 hundreds, they will see not blacks or
blues for the most part, but prints duns, grizzles mottles and so on doing
all the time flying. This begs the question that Dave is claiming as to when
did this change over in England to what we see today ! We see typically
Tumbler patterns and color arrangements do we not ? as well as BB Silvers
blacks and the old type also.

Now we all know the role that the Tumbler played it the conception of the
Tipple, but what we don't know is to what degree. I have read about Flying
Tumblers in the early days, great birds, clean legged and flew some
impressive times as well. Since in the early days of pigeon flying in all
the many villages and towns in England, these men were breeding for more
time, and by doing so they were in all likelihood crossing all kinds of
Tippler/Tumbler birds together of that time. Hence came the badges, bell
necks white flights and so on that we see today. Hell I am surprised we
don't see purple LOL !!

If one was to read from the book The Tippler, he would be amazed as to what
the writer has to say about the color of the then Flying Tippler. He claims
that to obtain today's colors ( of that time period ) the Danish, and
German Brander Tumbler, Archangels, Red Tumbler, Kites, were all used. Its
no wonder that so many combinations excised even today.

Over there or over here, its no wonder we see what we se in today's Tippler.

Just a blast from the past guys LOL !!

All the Best!
