Love the topic you have chosen to write about and have something to add as
well.

Firstly, the stock must carry the genetic ability to meet these grueling
endurance expectations.

But after saying that, I agree with you on the management side.

Great managers produce great stock, its that simple. Whether they have
genetic skills in breeding,or just great practical breeding skills, they are
well informed on breeding. The same lies in their ability's to train, feed,
and maintain a great kit of pigeons in this case, but the same being true in
any livestock breeder.

When I first got back into Tipplers some 13 years ago, I bought birds from
all over, raised some ybs and I have to tell you, I could not get those
birds to fly better than 5hrs or so. Told my wife I must have forgotten what
to do in terms of getting time out of tipplers. It wasn't till I changed up
the pairing of two birds did I finally see what I was after.

I put a grizzle cock to a grizzle hen, total outcross as far as breeding
methods go and from two separate fanciers. They gave me a bb and a print.
When they finally left the roof, they flew for hours upon hours by
themselves on their maiden outing. Does genetics matter, absolutely ! They
became the foundation of my loft at that time, and I still to this day have
that sire, and some of his get.

There is something to be said about those breeders that are always on the
winning side. They breed "consistency" a far more important point than any
one individual having a good year/season ! It speaks to their ability's as
great managers and breeders ! It should tell the novice and the seasoned
fancier of their dedication to the sport they love.
