hi all, i have been reading these mails about the hawk attacks surveys ect
and i would just like to say when i first put the proposal into the n,t,u.
at the a,g,m. 2008 it wasnot to try for a cull of the perigines as anyone
knows this would never happen it was to show excactly the amount of falcons
that every area now has, at the time it was being said that there was known
to be two breeding pairs in west midlands by the people concerned but has we
know being pigeon fanciers who now suffer endless attacks this is not true ,
in the season 2008 i suffered one of the worsed seasons ever with countless
attacks dueing the hawks breeding season on nearly every kit i put out , if
not one day they would get them next time out , i lost 3 birds to them in
one day, i was settling some youngsters early morning and they was hit
resulting in one being took , after a time i got the rest back, later that
day i released another kit of young i had on the hour mark , they got one of
these , to finish my day off i put my last three old hen birds up in
training and to take the piss they got a clay hen i had flew 16 hrs plus on
a earlier fly , that was my kit finished, the next day i rang the local
R,S,P,B. and complained about the losses i was having to be told it was
nature for this to happen and the problem in my area couldnot be that bad
has i was the only person he knew that had a complaint ,so i put this
proposal into the a,g,m. /, The n,t,u. prepare a survey with all the n,t,u.
members and all local clubs , i,e. roller and racing , all fanciers to log
all attacks over the old and young birds and all copies of results to be
sent by petition to the R,S,P,B. and local MPs , This survey to be made open
to any fancier of pigeons that wishes to add to the survey as well ,/ sadley
this was defeated , there comes a time when trying to compete becomes
pointless , you cant anyway if you dont have a kit , i have tried many
deterrents , from eyes on birds wings with silk paints to other ways but it
never stoped them taking my birds , after keeping my birds in for 5 mths
through the winter i brought 3 cocks out in feb 09 to have them hit straight
away , we then found out a pair is nesting in town on one of the highest
buildings who knows how long they have been there , i myself beleive no one
knows the true population now , it is known they are breeding 3 to 4
youngsters each year without any problems , after my old birds got ruined i
didnot settle any youngsters last season untill august and flew a kit in t
higgs in september , they wasnot hit on the day and these are the only kit
of 4 hens i have to bring out this season , will be interesting to see once
again what happens , I would just like to add i am all for anything to help
with this problem ,
