In Germany, the government breeds thousands of BOP in many different areas
like Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf and many other areas each year and teach
them to hunt pigeons in the breeding camps by feeding them live pigeons and
free them around the cities in order to stop population increase of street
pigeons, but they end up hunting our birds because the street pigeons don’t
taste as good as our pigeons or may be difficult to catch. This is not any
more protecting the nature. If we want to protect the environment, we should
think about other species which are the BOPs victims too. All the singing
birds which have disappeared in my area within the past 20 years like the
other birds too. I live near a forest in the middle of Hamburg city, where
last year few pedestrians where attached by Hawks (it was an article in the
Die Welt newspaper). All the baby ducks and swans in the river Alster which
goes through this forest are being hunted every year, I just think the
officials don’t get informed and if they do they don’t know the depth of the
problem because the smaller birds are not much observed by them. I have
heard that artificial breeding of BOPs are being practiced in other
countries too. So if we take action we can definitely stop this act of
governments, then we can wake them up and let them examine the nature more
carefully and notice the disappearance of different species by the BOPs.

I don’t think it would be easy to get permission to kill them but we could
get the right to protect our birds. The BOPs are not so stupid they can feel
the danger long before they come to them, you can observe a hawk sitting on
a tree for hours, the moment you go for a camera to photograph her she would
fly away . I want to say that if we were allowed to take protection measures
they would leave our area and eventually immigrate to places where they
belong out of our reach.

If all the fanciers unite to take action, we might find lawyers among the
fanciers who would probably help us in one way or another. Since the number
of fanciers are still substantial, we could probably establish an
organization to follow this case. an account could be opened and every
fancier who support this move and wants to protect his bird pays an annual
fee of 1 or 2 Euro or dollar which would make a substantial amount enough to
support this move. This could be done through the clubs and unions which we
are all member by increasing the yearly membership fee by 2 dollars for
example. And the clubs could pay to the account of the organization which
would be managed by the people chosen by them.

In contrary of those who think we shouldn’t do anything because we would
have no chance, I believe we ought to take action because today we have a
different situation than few years back due to the technology of
communication we could reach out to a larger population of fanciers to unite
everybody to support this act.

We should not see this as a dream but a hope which one day could be
realized. Of course individually, non of us would have any chance to achieve
this goal but united we could achieve, almost, anything!!!

Yours Sincerely
Mehdi
